Review
In 1985, America created a gameshow called
Catchphrase, in which contestant would have to guess a popular catchphrase based on an animated scene shown on screen. It was short lived and only lasted a year. Yet when Britain created their own version of the gameshow in 1986, it ended up running for eighteen years. Part of the reason I think it worked in the UK was because of the game's wonderful mascot Mr Chips.
Mr Chips makes a return in the UK-style app version of the game made for iOS and Android systems. The sharp, but retro animation is just like the television show, and sparks a bit of nostalgia for anyone who was a fan.
There are over three hundred levels, starting with very easy phrases, to trickier, more obscure ones. Each level takes you one step the the ladder, until you reach a new world. These worlds don't have any significance to the gameplay, but are simply a visual attraction.
In gameplay you will watch an animated scene and try to guess what the catchphrase is. Once you think you know, there will be a selection of words to choose from which you have to put in the right order. The faster you answer, the better your score. If you don't get the right answer you can either use gems to be told the answer, or try again.
Whether or not you watched the original show, is entertaining, humorous, and gets your brain working.
