With over six million ‘Likes’, there is no doubt that Bejeweled Blitz is a Facebook hit. And what’s not to like? Players have sixty seconds to accumulate as many points as possible by matching gems of the same colour in rows or column of three, four and five gems. Players compete against their Facebook friends in weekly competitions for bragging rights.

    In-Game Bonuses

Bejeweled Blitz has a wealth of in-game bonuses to help players reach the top of the week’s Leaderboard including score multipliers, Flame gems, Star gems and Hypercubes. Score multipliers are essential to getting a high score in Bejeweled Blitz. They are dropped almost randomly and can come in any of the game’s gem colours. Once matched, the multiplier is activated. Bejeweled Blitz allows players to get as high as nine times the base score through the use of multipliers. Flame gems, Star gems and Hypercubes are all created by making matches of four or five gems.

The Flame gems are created by matching four gems of the same colour. Five gems matched in a straight line will create a Hypercube while five gems matched in a T or L formation will create a Star gem. Flame gems and Star gems need to used in a match to be activated. The Flame gem will explode, taking out surrounding gems and the Star gem will destroy all gems in its row and column. The Hypercube only needs to be moved onto any other neighboring gem to be activated. The colour of the gem the Hypercube is moved on dictates how the Hypercube will react. If a Hypercube is pulled over a blue gem, all the blue gems on the board are destroyed, the same will happen with any colour of gem.

    Out-of-Game Bonuses

Players can also buy boosts and harvest rare gems in between games. Boosts are purchased with coins which players accumulate in-game. Players can also purchase coins with real money. There are five boosts to choose from including a free multiplier and a bonus five second game extension. Players can buy up to three boosts at a time. Once purchased the boost will automatically come into play for the next three games.

Rare gems are much more powerful but also cost a lot more coins. There are multiple ways for players to acquire rare gems, from harvesting them after a game to getting them in their message box, sent by other Facebook friends. Most rare gems give a large bonus at the end of the game but some provide additional bonuses during gameplay.

With so may option and bonuses, Bejeweled Blitz had lots to offer the casual and competitive gamer alike.
