The Maze Runner is a new game for Android that was released on the 9th October to coincide with the release of the film. Unless you have seen the film, you won't really understand the setting because it does not explain any of the storyline. This, however will not affect your ability or enjoyment of the game.
To set the scene, The Maze Runner is about a teenager called Thomas who wakes up in a glade with no memory of who he is. He is the same situation as all the other boys in the glade. The boys cannot escape because the glade is surrounded by a dangerous maze. Some of the boys are selected to be 'Runners', who enter the maze and map it in hopes to find a way out.
Like the film, in the game the maze is made up of eight sections. Each section has four levels in which you run through the maze collecting coins and clues. You need to collect all sixteen clues to unlock the next section of the maze.
The Maze Runner may not be particularly innovative as it is similar to many other Android games out there, but what it does, it does well. The controls are easy to use and graphics excellent, especially when it comes to character detail.
There are four characters to choose from, but in reality, only one of them is really playable. The second character requires 50,000 coins to unlock, which is a ridiculous amount, considering there are only about one to two hundred coins to collect per level. The other two characters have to be purchased.
If you have not played this style of running game before then it is definitely worth playing, but if you are already familiar with such games, then you probably won't find that it has anything more to offer.
