Review

the flintstones, bring back bedrock

Yabba-Dabba-Doo! The Flintstones have gone mobile and made it onto an app. Quite an achievement for a pre-historic family. The Flintstones: Bring Back Bedrock has actually been out for quite a number of months, but a bug meant that it refused to load on Android systems. The good news, however, is that the developers, Ludia Inc., listened to feedback and corrected the problem.

The game opens with wonderful 2D animation that homages the opening credits of the television show. Fred is on his way home from work, but the drive is far from smooth as Bedrock gets bombarded by a meteor shower, destroying everything in sight.

While the rest of Bedrock get up and go, Fred is determined to rebuild his much-loved town, and it is up to you to help him. The task entails clearing rubble, building houses, and buying new furniture.

These tasks are completed in real time, use up energy, and cost virtual money in the form of gold, rocks, and clam shells. You can earn these through completing goals, or if you're impatient, by spending real money to get an instant boost.

Although the characters are obviously not voiced by the original actors, the voice artists who take on the job do a wonderful job at replicating what the characters should sound like. The dialogue is enjoyable to listen to, and fits in with the character's personalities.

The only draw back with this game is the huge amount of memory it takes up. I had to delete several apps before I could download it, and even after that it takes a long time to load. Unless you have a high-spec tablet, you won't be able to play this game with ease. If you do have lots of storage, however, it is great fun.
