The last time aliens invaded Earth was in 1978. It was a bloody war, but we managed to defeat them. Unfortunately the aliens did not learn their lesson. They've had years to rebuild their forces, and now they are coming back strong than ever to take over our planet. It is your mission to blast them out of the sky and save the world.
All you have is one little tank against an unending army of ships, but if we catch them early, then there may still be a chance. Somehow we managed to plant a tank on every planet in the solar system, and our first battle will take place on Pluto (still a planet in 1999).
The rules of engagement are simple. They fire at you. You fire at them. Get hit three times and it's game over. Fortunately the aliens' mothership is packed with goodies. Hit her and you can earn yourself a protective shield or even stop the other spacecraft in their tracks (for a few seconds at least).
The ships come in all shapes and colours, and if you hit four ships of the same colour in a row, then you will earn yourself a special weapon that could inflict a wipeout.
There are over a hundred levels to complete, so it is no easy task, but at lease you will be surrounded by beautifully graphic scenery, cool music, and a sense of pride fighting for the freedom of your planet.
As a reward for your efforts, if you take out enough ships, we will give you a place of honour on the leaderboard, where generations will praise your for years to come.
We understand that you are one against many, so if you feel the need for backup, you can enlist a friend to fight alongside you. Perhaps a bit of friendly competition to see who can destroy the most ships will be beneficial motivation.
Space Invaders is a brilliant classic for any retro gamer. They may have transferred it from the arcade to the home console, but they did not mess with the format. It retains what makes all the early arcade games so successful. Simplicity. Good luck soldier, and have fun.
