Review
I can't skateboard to save my life, let alone do any tricks. I think that is probably the reason why I quite like video games featuring skateboards, bikes, scooters, and roller blades, where you can perform stunts; it give me a chance to do moves I am unable to in real life.
When I saw
PEPI Skate 3D on my list of recommendations on Google Play, I thought that was the kind of thing I would be getting. I was wrong. For a game involving a skateboard it is considerably dull.
To begin the game you choose from a variety of characters; all of which are typically male (women do skateboard too, you know). If it is your first time playing only one of these characters are available to play. The rest have to be unlocked by collecting coins. The good thing here is that these coins are all within the game, and there is no real currency that needs to be spent.
Just like the characters need to be unlocked, so do the levels. Moving onto the next level isn't all that exciting though because the change in environment is minimal, mainly consisting in a time of day.
If you do get past the first level, I must congratulate you, because it means you've mastered the awful controls. In principle, the controls are simple: tilt to move left and right, swipe up to jump, and swipe down to crouch. In practice, it's a different story. The controls are slow to respond, meaning you frequently crash into obstacles. If you crash into an obstacle it's game over and you have to start all over again, which can be very irritating.
The aim of the game is to skate down a road full of blockades and cars, while collecting coins. Apart from jumping and crouching, there are no tricks to perform, and your character won't get much higher than a foot off the ground.
It didn't take me long to get bored with this game, and it is not worth the 19mb memory it takes up on your tablet/phone.
