If you haven’t picked up Kingdom Rush or Kingdom Rush Frontiers in a while, now might be the time to give it another go…at least if you have the game on an Android, iDevice or Kindle Fire. Both the Android and the iOS versions of Kingdom Rush and Kingdom Rush Frontiers received a major update, adding a survival mode that breathes new life into two already awesome games.
Ironhide Studios released a little video teaser in late July, just before the update:
The update has yet to be released for the Flash or Steam versions of the game. This is pretty normal for Ironhide Studios, but they usually pass the update love around as time goes on.
In this review, we are going to take an in depth look at the Survival Mode or the original Kingdom Rush. Survival mode is one of the harshest stages yet and Kingdom Rush fans will certainly enjoy the map. Unlike regular maps, players only get 10 hearts instead of twenty, and there are no heroic or iron challenges. In the Kingdom Rush survival map, creeps have two points of exit and three points of entry. Best of all, the survival map enemy onslaught changes each time it’s played. This is a game-changer as players will no longer have to grind the same maps over and over again to gain gems.

Since the survival map changes with each play, players can have some basic strategies but they will never know how to prepare since the onslaught of creeps is never the same. Ironhide has also introduced some new enemies that fight long side those we already know and love. The enemy army can also erect totems and pillars, which give a bonus to nearby creeps.
The stage can be played over and over again. High scores are recorded on a global scoreboard so players will always have a goal: getting to the top of the board. Ironhide has always been good for updating their games to keep players interested, but this update takes the Kingdom Rush games to a whole new level.
