dungeon gems

In Dungeon Gems you get to join players from around the world in a roleplaying fantasy puzzle game. The aim is to fight the awakened dungeon dragons and their minions to gain XP and unlock new characters.

The key to success is picking the right elements to use against the right creatures. Water beats fire; fire beats earth; earth beats water; dark and light oppose each other.

When starting the game for the first time you get to pick which elemental you wish to be your party leader. I picked earth, not realising at the time that about 85% of the creatures you'll encounter are fire. Although you can change your party leader and team whenever you wish, I find it disappointing that the game is weighted so heavily on one element, as it lacks variation, and pre-determines the kind of team you are going to need to build.

The gameplay itself is fun to begin with, but gets boring quickly because it is so repetitive. It basically involves swiping elemental runes as a form of attack again and again.

The most interesting thing about the game is unlocking new characters and strategising which characters work best together to form the strongest team. That's partly because it requires a bit of strategy, but also because of the because of the great graphics.

There are lots of ways to improve your team's skills: through evolving, enhancing, and pairing them up. This requires gems, coins, and tokens, which you can earn through gameplay, but very slowly. If you want to speed things up, you can pay to buy these things.
